The Elkton Police Department is celebrating a professional achievement as Captain Jakop Smith has successfully graduated from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training’s Academy of Police Supervision.

Elkton Police say Smith completed the three-week leadership program, with a graduation ceremony held on April 17. Elkton Police Chief Robert Toombs, Sergeant David Hutcheson, and members of Smith’s family were in attendance to recognize his accomplishment.

The Academy of Police Supervision is a highly regarded course designed specifically for law enforcement supervisors. The program focuses on key leadership skills, including ethical decision-making, problem-solving, situational leadership, and effective communication—critical tools for managing officers and serving the community.

Police say Smith’s commitment to continued professional development reflects his dedication to both the department and the citizens it serves.
