The annual Take Kids Fishing Day will return to the area for its 25th year Saturday, May 23.
Take Kids Fishing is designed for children ages three to 15 – along with a responsible adult – allowing children the opportunity for a day of fishing at Jeffers Bend Recreation Area in Hopkinsville. Children can fish, participate in a casting and reeling competition and have fun with water slides and obstacle courses.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the north fork of Little River on Metcalfe Lane within Jeffers Bend. Signs will be posted at the park to direct drivers.
There is a pre-registration fee of $2 per child and adult, due Monday, May 18. After, the cost is $3. Military and first responder families can enter for free with IDs. The registration fee includes a t-shirt (while supplies last) and lunch of a hotdog, chips and a bottle of water.
All children must be accompanied by an adult, children under six must wear life jackets and all participating children are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles if they own one, as there will only be a limited quantity available to borrow. Participants are also encouraged to bring a cooler of ice to take any caught fish home.
To register for Take Kids Fishing, take the registration form and fee to any of the designated registration sites, including the Aaron McNeil Center, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department, The Pennyrile Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area Council, Hopkinsville Boys and Girls Club and Hopkinsville Housing Authority. Hopkinsville Electric System (HES) and Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority (HWEA) are also available by drive-thru.
