Attorney General Russell Coleman has announced nearly $34 million in opioid settlement funding has been awarded to more than 100 organizations across the Commonwealth to fight addiction.

The funding was approved this week by the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission during an event in Lexington. It marks the largest single round of funding since the commission was created in 2021, bringing total investments to more than $100 million statewide.

Grants were awarded in three categories: treatment and recovery, prevention, and—new this year—research and innovation. More than $3.6 million was set aside for six research-focused projects aimed at advancing new strategies to combat addiction.

Two of those grants are coming to the News Edge listening area.

Baptist Health Deaconess is targeting “Madisonville Opioid Prevention,” and has been awarded $405,471 to serve Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Webster, Caldwell and McLean counties.

Meanwhile, Men 2 Be in Hopkinsville is targeting a “Tools in the Toolbox: A Five Day-a-Week Prevention & Workforce Pathway” Expansion, and has been awarded $400,000 to serve Christian, Trigg and Todd counties.
