Now that the May Primary Election has passed, all eyes turn toward the November General Election, which will feature numerous local races across Todd County.
Candidates seeking to run for offices on the November ballot have until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 2, to officially enter their names into the race.
Several key mayoral and city council seats are already shaping up across the county’s municipalities. In Elkton, incumbent Mayor Arthur Green filed in March to run for another term, while the Elkton City Council race will feature incumbents Frank McReynolds, Wade Griffin, Danny Laster, John Mullins, and George Orr, alongside challenger Harold Rager. Guthrie could see a new mayor come November, as current Mayor Jimmy Covington has not filed to seek reelection. Challengers Zollie Rose and Albert Scott Marshall both filed earlier this year for the seat, while Lauren Patrick Paddy has filed paperwork seeking a seat on the Guthrie City Council. In Trenton, Joyce Edwards has filed paperwork to run for a seat on the Trenton City Commission.
Attention is also shifting to the Todd County Fiscal Court, where several magisterial districts will see competitive matchups or returning incumbents. A three-way race is set for District 1, where Michael Case filed in January as an Independent to run against Democratic incumbent Alfred Blake and Republican challenger Jack Gant. In District 4, Democrat Cynthia “Cindy” McKinney won the primary race against William “Pete Cole” Drane and will advance to face Republican incumbent Henry “Boogie” Oliver II in November. Meanwhile, incumbents face clear paths so far in Districts 3 and 5, as Republican Brent Brookshire and Democrat Jimmy Turner are the lone candidates filed to run for their respective seats.
Finally, several county-wide administrative, school board, and specialized seats are on the ballot. A transition is coming to the courthouse as Todd County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan will retire at the end of her current term, leaving Republican Amanda Ricchuite Fowler as the candidate who filed to run for the office. A handful of other local incumbents have filed to retain their current positions unopposed, including Democratic Property Valuation Administrator Perry Stokes and Republican Todd County Coroner Timothy Wells. For the Todd County School Board, incumbents Andrea Howard Jones of the 1st District and James Todd Thomas of the 5th District have both filed to run for another four-year term.
Additionally, Don Laster has filed for the Soil Conservation District seat.
