The Todd County Health Department has confirmed a measles case in an adult resident with recent international travel, indicating ongoing local transmission.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory virus that poses serious health risks, especially to infants. It spreads airborne and can survive for hours. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash appearing 7-14 days after exposure.
Public Information Officer Brooke Calvery stressed that measles is preventable with the two-dose MMR vaccine, which offers lifetime protection.
The TCHD is actively conducting case investigations and contact tracing. Residents should contact their healthcare provider or the TCHD at (270) 265-2362 for vaccine information and appointments.
