Elkton Rotary’s annual Firecracker 5K is coming up next week and there is still time to sign up for the race.
Participants have until Friday, June 20 to enter the race with a discounted price of $30, which includes a free t-shirt, otherwise race day’s entry fee is $40.
The 5K will take place Saturday, June 28 and aims to raise money for Todd County students through the Happy Feet program, which supplies students with brand-new pairs of shoes to start their school year.
All money raised from the race’s entry fees and the community’s generous donations directly benefits the school district’s Family Resource and Youth Service Center (FRYSC) and its Happy Feet program. Every 5K entry provides a new pair of shoes for a Todd County student.
Last year, Todd County’s school district was able to supply 128 students with new shoes. The Rotary Club’s goal for this year’s 5K is 200 pairs of shoes, which would require raising $6,000.
In August, students will have the opportunity to choose their own shoes from hundreds of options of quality, name-brand products, just like they would in a regular shoe store.
On race day, registration will open at 6:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 8 a.m. at the Milliken Memorial Community House.
For those unable to participate in the 5K, the Rotary Club is also accepting donations. Register or donate HERE.
