Elkton City Hall And Police Department Renovation Project Progresses Amid Delays

Elkton’s City Hall and Police Department buildings are still under construction as its renovation project continues.

Mayor Arthur Green says the top portions of the buildings were painted a few weeks ago and new doors for both the City Hall and Police Department buildings have been ordered, but it should be three to four weeks before they arrive. He adds the renovation, like a lot of projects, has been slower than he would like for it to have been.

Green says he hopes the renovations for the front of the buildings can be completed by the end of May or the beginning of June.

There are also plans underway for a porch that will cover both buildings. Before that can happen, Green says the doors will need to be put in and one window relocated, as well as brickwork and painting the building’s exterior.

Green adds once the building’s exterior is complete, there are plans to renovate parts of the interior. There haven’t been any interior renovations or updates in around 25 years, so Green says there are a few things inside that need to be tackled.

The renovation project was bid out last year but did not receive any bids. Because of this, Green says there is no single contractor for the project, but rather individual community members who have been hired to complete different pieces of the renovations.

Green remains optimistic about the renovation’s improvements and the way the new facility will help to serve the community.
