Renovations on Todd County’s Historic 1835 Courthouse continue to progress as headway is made on the building’s upstairs and south door.
Todd County Welcome Center Director Charlotte Myers says upon removing tile upstairs, the Courthouse’s original tile flooring was found underneath the plywood. Now, construction plans have changed as the team backs up and regroups, first beginning work on the ceiling so as to not damage the floors.
As for the building’s exterior, the south door is now almost complete. Myers says the door has been stained and will eventually be repainted an authentic, appropriate shade of white from the time period when the Courthouse was originally built. She adds trim work still needs to be done around the inner and outer edges, both inside and outside.
The Courthouse’s renovations have been ongoing for eight years now and there is no specific end date in sight yet — Myers describes it as a “hurry-up-and-wait process.” In the meantime, renovations on the main courtroom are underway and work on two smaller rooms in the building will begin after the courtroom is complete. The current priority is the completion of the Courthouse’s upstairs and main doors.
