It was February 14, 1924, when the Elkton Rotary Club was chartered by Rotary International – the organization is celebrating 100 years of community service.

Wednesday was officially declared Rotary Club of Elkton Day by Mayor Arthur Green. He shared some of the things the group has done for the community.

When it was founded, Elkton was said to be the smallest town in the world in which a Rotary Club existed.

Like other clubs in western Kentucky and around the country, the Elkton Rotary Club has adopted the motto, “Service Above Self.”

Most recent examples of the group living up to its motto include partnering with Novelis for a bicycle giveaway, helping groups like the Back To Back Foundation provide a better Christmas for Todd County children, and providing financial support to the Happy Feet program.

The club takes on its biggest community event from Friday, March 22 to Friday, March 29, with its annual scholarship auction. The auction will be hosted on the Bolinger Real Estate and Auction website. More details about the auction can be found on the WEKT website and heard on Todd 1070 WEKT, WEKTradio.com, and the WEKT app.
