In an effort to bolster local food supplies, WEKT is partnering with churches, businesses, and local organizations to host a community-wide food drive on Wednesday, May 13th.
The event will feature live radio broadcasts and multiple drop-off locations to encourage participation across Todd County. The initiative aims to collect food donations for Todd County Public Schools students, supplementing the district’s upcoming summer feeding program. While full details are pending, a recent grant will enable the district to provide weekly distributions of breakfast and lunch items.
Event Schedule and Locations
The food drive will be split into two sessions to allow residents from different parts of the county to contribute:
-
Guthrie: The first leg of the drive will take place from 10:30 AM to Noon. WEKT will provide live coverage from the Guthrie Transportation Museum.
-
Elkton: Following the morning session, the drive will move to the Elkton Food Giant from 12:30 to 2:00 PM. During this time, the Elkton Rotary Club will participate in the event, holding a portion of their weekly meeting on-site to help rally support.
How to Give
Organizers are requesting specific items to ensure the drive provides maximum benefit to local families. The following donations will be accepted at both locations:
-
Non-perishable food items (canned goods, dry pasta, boxed meals, etc.)
-
$25 Food Giant gift cards
-
Monetary donations (cash or check)
