Looking to spread the love of Jesus, coffee, and food, Salt & Light Cafe officially opens for business Friday morning at 6:00 in downtown Elkton.

Harrison and Laura Hennick, local residents for the past few years, bring a wealth of hospitality expertise to the venture.

Harrison added that the Lord has led him back to this path of using his spiritual gifts of serving and hospitality. After pursuing an opportunity in Russellville, which quickly ended, the Hennick family learned of a chance to operate their dream business on the Elkton Square.

Both are originally from Canada and share a love of baking and coffee, but Salt & Light Cafe will offer additional food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

In the Bible, being “salt” refers to the call for believers to preserve the moral fabric of society and enhance the “flavor” of the world through virtuous living. Being “light” signifies the responsibility to openly reflect God’s truth and love, acting as a visible guide that illuminates the way for others in a dark or confused world.

Harrison said there was one other name they considered for the business.

Starting, Salt & Light Cafe will be open Monday–Friday from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Saturday from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and closed on Sunday, and is located at 22 Public Square.

There are plans to showcase local art and handmade products in the cafe.
