The Todd County Central Future Business Leaders of America Chapter recently took 16 members to the Region 1 FBLA Conference held on the campus of Murray State University. Members competed in several events, including Sales Pitch, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Broadcast Journalism, Job Interview, and many others.

This is the first year back for the Todd Central FBLA program, since the early 2000’s, and was resurrected by Student Teacher and former student of Todd Central, Madison Frogue. She stated, “FBLA is a great chapter to be a part of if students are looking for skills that will help them in the future workforce of any career.”

Many students stepped out of their comfort zones and competed in events, which helped them gain experience in the competitions. These events encouraged students to work with members of the community to gather information and develop projects. For example, Junior Ellie Miller partnered with Jenn Harris, owner of Hip Harvest and Rose Hill Antiques, to complete a rebranding project. The FBLA Visual Design team also created a recruitment booth that will be used during 8th Grade Night at the school in April.

For students to make it to state, they have to qualify for the top three, and the fourth-place winner gets to advance if one of them is unable to attend.

Omar Figueroa-Navarrete, a senior at Todd Central and WEKT intern, competed in the Broad Journalism event, where he recorded a video under two minutes and presented it. His video was the highlight of the 50th Annual TCCHS FFA Tractor Day and placed second in the region, advancing to state. The first project to qualify for the state competition since FBLA was brought back to the school.

The Todd Central FBLA Chapter also received first place for the most members in the large division.
