Congressman James Comer has announced the local nominations for the United States service academies for 2025, and a Sharon Grove student is among the elite group of candidates.

Samuel Joseph Nelson, a student from Sharon Grove who attends Nelson Home Academy, has received a prestigious nomination to the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Nelson is one of only sixteen students selected from Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District. These nominations are a critical step in the appointment process for the nation’s service academies, which require a recommendation from a member of Congress, the Vice President, or the President.

“Each candidate has distinguished themselves through exceptional scholarship, leadership, and character,” said Congressman Comer. “Their commitment to serving in our nation’s armed forces is truly admirable, and I have every confidence they will continue to excel as they advance through the appointment process.”

The United States Military Academy at West Point is one of the world’s most respected service institutions, focusing on developing commissioned officers for the U.S. Army.

Nelson, along with the other nominees, will now await final appointment decisions from the academies.
