In an effort to enhance local safety, the Todd County Extension Office is partnering with the City of Elkton, Elkton Fire Department, and the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department to raise funds for specialized grain rescue gear.
During Wednesday’s Rotary Club of Elkton meeting, Ag Extension Agent Traci Johnson said this all came after the December Grain Safety and Rescue Training held at her office.
The total cost for the equipment is estimated at $70,000; Johnson confirmed that the campaign has already raised about 42% of that total.
Checks can be written to the Elkton Fire Department or the City of Elkton and dropped off at Elkton City Hall or mailed to PO Box 578, Elkton, KY 42220.
Johnson shared that the grain vacuum will be picked up from the 60th National Farm Machinery Show taking place next week in Louisville.
The equipment will be stored at the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department for easy deployment to anywhere in Todd County.
