Funding for home-delivered senior meals has been quite the topic in Kentucky in recent weeks.

United Way of the Pennyrile was the focus of conversation at the Elkton Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday afternoon, with Director Melanie Noffsinger sharing time with Pennyrile Allied Community Services.

Aging Director Rachel Newman shared that meals are running on a reduced schedule through November 1st.

Newman said that between 750 and 800 meals are delivered across their nine-county service area each day, with around 70 in Todd County.

Newman shared that they legally can not charge for the meals they deliver, but they can accept donations, and average about a nickel for each meal delivered.

Pennyrile Allied Community Services is one of the 16 partner organizations that benefit from funds raised during the United Way of the Pennyrile’s annual campaign.

Noffsinger shared which of their partner organizations have served Todd County residents within the last year:

  • The American Red Cross – 22 residents
  • Armed Services YMCA – 1 resident
  • Dyslexia Assoication of the Pennyrile – 2 residents
  • Kentucky Legal Aid – 28 residents
  • The Salvation Army – 12 residents
  • Sanctuary, Inc. – 12 residents
  • Trace Industries – 3 residents
  • PACS RSVP has 43 Todd County volunteers
