Elkton City Councilmember David Allen Powell formally resigned his position, effective Friday.
In a letter dated October 9, Powell informed the Mayor and City Council that his decision was made “after careful consideration and personal reflection” and was the “right one for me and my family at this time.” No other specific reason was provided for the sudden departure.
Powell, who called his tenure a “tremendous honor,” expressed pride in the community’s achievements and thanked residents for their trust.
“I am proud of the progress we’ve made together,” Powell wrote, adding that he looks forward to seeing Elkton “continue to grow and thrive” as the city he has called home for decades.
The resignation creates an immediate vacancy on the Elkton City Council.
