Red Cross Offering Disaster Training In Todd County

From tornadoes to flooding, Kentucky repeatedly faces the often unforgiving reality of extreme weather.

As the state sits squarely between the western Appalachian Mountains and Tornado Alley, which many weather experts say is beginning to shift toward the east, Kentucky sees some of the highest counts of federally declared disasters, despite being a land-locked state.

In order to prepare Todd Countians to be ready to respond in their community, the American Red Cross is holding a shelter training Friday, Sept. 6 at Petrie Memorial Methodist Church in Elkton. The training will begin at 9 a.m. and is open to anyone interested in learning how to assist with establishing and operating emergency shelters in times of natural disasters.

Interested participants may register for the training by contacting Red Cross Community Disaster Program Manager Jason Dotson at 270-201-4177 or jason.dotson@redcross.org.
