Two Soldiers from the Fort Campbell 101st Combat Aviation Brigade have been recognized by the Clarksville Police Department for stopping an armed suspect during an incident at a Riverside Drive business in May.
Police Chief Ty Burdine presented Citizen Commendations to Sgts. Maisen Temple and Jacob Paz on June 24, praising their quick actions that prevented a potentially deadly situation.
According to officials, the soldiers were watching a hockey game on May 14 when a severely intoxicated man returned to the establishment with a handgun following a verbal altercation. Temple and Paz immediately tackled and restrained the suspect before he could fire the weapon.
Chief Burdine said the pair’s courage made the Clarksville community safer, while 101st Combat Aviation Brigade Command Sgt. Maj. Anthony Mintz said their actions reflected the highest standards of the Army and the 101st Airborne Division. Both Soldiers have also been nominated for the Soldier’s Medal for their heroism.
Despite the recognition, Temple and Paz said they were simply doing what they believed was right and encouraged others to step in and help when they can safely do so.
