Todd County Central High School celebrated its Class of 2026 graduation ceremony on Friday night, featuring a powerful and emotional address from Class President Omar Figueroa-Navarrete.

Speaking to a packed gymnasium of families, faculty, and peers, Figueroa-Navarrete reflected on the class’s journey from kindergarten to high school graduation, acknowledging the bittersweet reality of leaving behind familiar spaces and moving forward.

“All the little places we once called our own are moving on, just like we are,” Figueroa-Navarrete noted as he described the transition. “That’s part of growing up—learning to let go.”

During his speech, he expressed deep gratitude to the school’s teachers, administrators, and support staff—including bus drivers, cafeteria workers, and custodians—for their dedication and personal sacrifices. He specifically credited his educators with inspiring his own future career choice, stating, “You didn’t just teach us academically—you understood us, built connections with us, and made us feel welcomed and valued. You are the reason I am inspired to pursue a career in education.”

In a particularly moving segment, Figuero-Navarrete transitioned into Spanish to directly address the Spanish-speaking families in attendance, thanking his parents and relatives who traveled from Mexico. He offered encouragement to underclassmen and issued a poignant reminder to first-generation graduates to always honor their roots.

“Students, never forget where we come from or all the sacrifices that our parents and our families have made for us,” he urged the crowd. “Keep representing our roots with pride and happiness.”

Closing with a message of faith and resilience, he wished his classmates success as they enter college, careers, or new paths. He reminded his fellow graduates that no matter where life takes them, they should move forward with courage and confidence.

Joshua 1:9 states, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Reflecting the high regard of his peers, Figueroa-Navarrete was presented with the ‘Campbell Loving Cup Award’—an honor voted on by the entire class to recognize a student who stands out in every aspect of school life.

The graduation ceremony saw 108 students walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. The event featured a performance of the “National Anthem” by senior Haley Orberson on the flute, followed by addresses from Valedictorian Rylann Griggs and Salutatorian John Tabor.

The First Honor Student was Allyssa Wofford. Joining her in the Top Ten Percent are Leah Glenn, Allyssa Clardy, Jayden Stanton, Marah White, Meredith Hampton, Thomas Morse, Dora Sharp, Elizabeth Langley, Addison Woodall, Addison Johnson, and Shelby Rios-Velasco.

During the ceremony, Principal Lee Quarles honored classmate Landrey Basham, who passed away in October 2022.
