Two National Changes Could Affect 2026 Tax Filing And Refunds

Due to federal government changes, individuals may experience USPS postmark delays and changes in direct deposit refunds.

According to the Kentucky Department of Revenue, postmarks may no longer reflect the exact date that mail is dropped off at the post office. Taxpayers should request a manual postmark at the post office counter, otherwise they should file electronically or mail early.

Effective April 1, 2026, in order to receive a direct deposit refund, the name on tax returns must match the name on the taxpayer’s bank account. If not, a paper check will be mailed. Taxpayers and businesses should review their name and bank account information prior to filing their returns to avoid delays.
