Mrs. Joan Carol Atkins, age 77 of Trenton, passed away 9:23 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2026, at her residence. Services for Mrs. Carol will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2026, at Latham Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Peeples officiating. Burial will follow in the Edgewood Cemetery in Trenton. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday at Latham Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carol was born December 28, 1948, in Gallup, New Mexico. She and her husband owned and operated Carol's Flea Market in Clarksville, TN. She enjoyed antiques and searching for treasures. She loved taking care of her family and cooking them lots of their favorite dishes. She was the glue that held everyone together. Mrs. Carol was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lincoln Terry and Ruby Vinson Terry, her brother, Jerry Terry and her sister, Brenda Reid.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Paul E. Atkins of Trenton, her son, Kenny Sumpter of Trenton, her daughter, Georgie Smith and her husband Kent of Trenton, her brothers, James Terry and Timothy Terry both of Elkton, her sisters, Gwenda Yoder of Shipshewana, IN and HenriEdda Stratton of Elkton, her grandchildren, Kaley Bender, Joey Sumpter, Holden Smith and Sarah Allen, her great grandchildren, Rieghlyn Smith and David Bender.
