The Todd County Public Library, in conjunction with the Robert Penn Warren Birthplace Museum, recently announced their “Tell Me a Story” Warren Scholar Writing Competition.
The competition invites all public or homeschooling Todd County students in grades kindergarten through 12th to submit an original story or poem that corresponds to the 2026 theme, “The Past in the Present.”
This theme encourages students to write a narrative piece that explores how historical events, family legacies or past personal actions influence the present moment.
The competition is inspired by Robert Penn Warren, one of Kentucky’s many literary icons, and his poem, “Tell Me a Story.” Poems and stories must be the student’s original work – plagiarism will not be allowed.
Three prizes will be awarded to the top students: First place will receive $100, publication in the newspaper and an entry on the library’s annual plaque, recognizing the winner as a “Warren Scholar.” Second place will receive $100 and third will receive $50.
Students can submit their writing to the Todd County Public Library, email to library@toddcountylibrary.com or to their respective Todd County school. The contest opened March 3 and will close April 16.
