Summer plans are already in the works for Todd County 4-H.
The organization is gearing up for this summer’s 4-H Camp and 4-H Extension Agent Lee Ann McCuiston encourages families to start planning now.
Camp will be held Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 10 at the West KY 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, where students grades third through eighth will have the opportunity to take interesting classes and develop leadership skills.
Beyond the classes, there’s cabin competitions, team building games, themed dances every night, recreation and campfires, but McCuiston says one of the most important parts of camp is cabin life.
Beginning March 1, she will begin visiting schools across the county to promote camp and hand out preregistration forms. Families can also come to the extension office directly for a form.
Spots can be reserved with a $50 deposit and form, due by May 22 to the extension office.
McCuiston says camp prices continue to increase each year, and this year’s full price for one student is $365. 4-H offers financial assistance through camp scholarships, which are also due May 22.
Todd County 4-H will be launching a 4-H Camp Clover Campaign in March to fundraise. Their goal this year is to raise $17,000 to support over 75 students who may need financial assistance. However, with the increased price, McCuiston expects to see more students needing assistance than before.
If anyone would like to donate, contact the Todd County Extension Office. McCuiston says every dollar truly makes a difference.
