Historic Todd County, Inc (HTC) announces the fundraiser held on Monday, February 23, was a tremendous success with the event adding approximately $4370.00 minus expenses to the coffers of HTC.

The event, a tribute to the late James (Jimmy) Martin Groves, a founder of HTC, also served as a winter fundraiser for the Historic 1835 Todd County Courthouse. Glenn Slack, the last surviving founder of the 501(c)(3) non-profit and current president of the organization, messaged, “To all of the individuals that came out and joined us for lunch, and to the many businesses that placed carryout orders, we want to thank each and all for supporting the efforts of Historic Todd County, Inc. and helping to ensure this fundraiser was successful.”

Billy Bryant, vice-president of HTC, also added the fundraiser saw a collaborative effort with HTC directors having support from the community, from volunteers, from WEKT with a live broadcast and promotion of the fundraiser, and from Petrie Memorial Methodist Church allowing HTC to use POPs for the venue. As true of any fundraiser, thanks is due to so many, and HTC expresses its utmost gratitude to Carolyn Farmer, Jennifer Gibson, and Kim Hall for their expertise preparing the soups and chili for the event. Thanks is also extended to Schlabach’s Bakery for their generous donation of pecan and chess pies that were baked early the morning of the event. Additional workers are critical for most events, and thanks is extended to Rita Dillingham, Anna Jo Parmley, Cindy McKinney, Linda Penick, and Lucille Bryant for their willingness to don their volunteer hats on Monday. Obviously, events are only successful if the community is supportive, and approximately 180 people ordered take-outs or dined in person at POPs.

Again, many may not be aware that HTC, with the assistance and approval of the Todd County Fiscal Court, has applied for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that HTC is hopeful will be approved in the next few months. If approved, plans are to add handicapped accessibility to the Courthouse via a shaft elevator connecting the first floor to the second. Handicapped restrooms are also slated as a part of the proposed grant. Hopefully as well within the next few months both east and west exterior doors, sidelights, and transoms will be replaced. The new mahogany doors, which are currently being built by Carlisle Milling Products of Fancy Farm, Kentucky, will add a much-needed replacement of the exterior doors at the Courthouse. As you may recall, the south door was replaced a few years ago.

Those who currently serve on the HTC Board of Directors include Glenn Slack, president; Billy Bryant, vice-president; Laura Brock, treasurer; CLW, secretary; Matt Bailey, Charlotte Morrow, Randall Powell, Jo Ann Holder, and Linda Stokes Fritz, directors-at-large. Gary Violette, Todd County Historian, and Charlotte Myers, Welcome Center Director, also serve in their respective roles. Yearly HTC memberships of $10.00 to join the non-profit can be mailed to HTC, P.O. Box 101, Elkton, KY 42220.
