Expect to hear new voices on the air soon – WEKT has three Todd County Central High School students working for the station this semester, including Omar Figueroa-Navarrete.
The TCCHS senior has already been working at WEKT the last couple of months, writing news articles and taking pictures for Todd County’s Beta Club and other events with the school district.
Figueroa-Navarrete says his experience being involved at WEKT has already been valuable so far, and made good impressions in the college admissions process.
After graduating in May, he plans to attend Austin Peay State University for a degree in Middle School Education in Social Studies. He says he’s drawn to this particular field because he likes the challenges.
A few teachers at TCCHS have been big inspirations to him and encouraged him to go this route.
Figueroa-Navarette says one of the main reasons he chose this university is because it’s close to home. He says he loves everything about Todd County.
At Todd Tentral, Figueroa-Navarrete does a little bit of everything. He’s senior class president for the Class of 2026, Beta Club president, and a member of Spanish Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Elkton Rotary’s Interact Club.
Figueroa-Navarette is one of three students who will be joining the station, along with Gyanna Denton and Addie Weatherford. Stay tuned to hear their voices on WEKT.
