TCCHS Academic Team Advances To Governor’s Cup Regional Competition

Despite inclement weather and delays, Todd County Central High School’s Academic Team earned top placements at their district competition and is advancing to regionals.

The Governor’s Cup District Competition was held Thursday, Feb. 5 at Hopkinsville High School, after being delayed for nearly two weeks.

Coordinated by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition (KAAC), the Governor’s Cup program allows students to demonstrate academic excellence across multiple content areas.

“Placement at the district level is a significant accomplishment,” writes TCCHS Academic Team Coach Lisa Petrie, “particularly in a year when weather disruptions required flexibility and perseverance.”

Three Todd County students made top placements in their subject areas and will advance to regionals Saturday, Feb. 21 at Henderson County High School:

  • Josiah Tucker, 11th grade – Fifth place in Mathematics; second place in Science
  • Lucas Stratton, 10th grade – Fifth place in Composition; fifth place in Arts and Humanities
  • Thomas Dillingham, ninth grade – Third place in Social Studies

Regional winners will have the opportunity to advance to Kentucky’s state-level competition later this spring.

Petrie says the Todd County community is so proud of these students for their dedication, and wishes the team the best of luck as they compete this Saturday.
