North, South Todd Elementary Schools Bring Home Big Wins From District Academic Team Competition

North and South Todd Elementary Schools dominated the Governor’s Cup district competition Saturday. Feb. 7.

Both schools’ academic teams traveled to Stevenson Elementary in Russellville, Kentucky for the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition (KAAC) event, which Todd County Schools academic team coach Lisa Petrie says included a mix of team and individual competitions.

The final count includes 21 individual wins among 15 students, plus South and North Todd brought home first and second place in the quick recall competition, respectively. North Todd also won first in Future Problem Solvers, and after adding up the total scores for the overall winner, the two schools were only 0.5 points apart.

Petrie notes even during the past weeks of snow days, her group of students did virtual work every day to prepare for the competition.

She extends a special thank you to her South Todd co-coach Keylie Fears, North Todd coach Elizabeth Addison and volunteers Joey Jones and Evan Cantarelli.

Both schools will move on to the regional competition Saturday, Feb. 28 at Pembroke Elementary School, competing with around 13 other schools.
