James Groves, 91, of Elkton

Mr. James M. “Jimmy” Groves, age 91 of Elkton, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026, at The Medical Center of Bowling Green. Services for Mr. Jimmy will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Latham Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Ganther officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday and after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Latham Funeral Home.

Mr. Jimmy was born June 24, 1934, in Elkton. He was a member of The Christian Church of Elkton since 1944, where he served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Jimmy graduated from Elkton High School in 1952 and Transylvania University in Lexington, KY, with an AB degree in history and political science. While there, he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, where he was elected President. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he spent most of his tenure with the  European Headquarters of the U.S. Army Security Agency in Frankfurt, Germany. He served as the Todd County Circuit Court Clerk, to which he was elected six terms. He was elected President of Kentucky. Association of Circuit Court Clerks and later served as Chairman of the Education Committee. He was very involved in local affairs, serving as President of Rotary Club, President of Jaycees, Chairman of Todd Co. Sesquicentennial, and President of the City-County Park Board. He was a devout Democrat who deeply appreciated the six elections, which made him eligible to be the youngest member of the KY Democratic Executive Committee. Mr. Jimmy was a member of the Elkton Bank and Trust Board of Directors since 1984 and was made a member Emeritus in November 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Viola Blake Groves, his brothers, Bill Groves and Michael Groves Jr., his sisters, Margie Groves, Mary Elizabeth “Liddie” Groves, and Verbena “Beanie” Miller.

Survivors include his nephew, John Michael Maynard of Elkton, his niece, Anne Brandon and her husband, Christopher III of Elkton, his great nephew, Christopher Brandon IV and his wife Jennifer of Elkton, his great niece, Michelle Brandon Rager and her husband Todd of Elkton, his great great nieces and nephews, Paige Rager, Jacob Brandon, Preston Rager and Jillian Brandon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to Transylvania University, John D. Wright Scholarship, 300 North Broadway, Lexington, KY 40508, or Transylvania University, Frank A. Rose Scholarship.
