Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 crews will continue efforts Tuesday morning as a “hard freeze” transformed wet roads into dangerous sheets of ice overnight.
While all state-maintained routes in Todd County were plowed at least once, temperatures dropping near zero overnight have made black ice a widespread threat for Tuesday morning’s commute.
Road conditions remain hazardous and vary significantly depending on sunlight exposure. Officials warn that even roads appearing clear may hide sporadic ice patches. Beyond the frozen pavement, crews and contractors continue to battle downed trees and low-hanging limbs that remain a major safety concern across the region.
Relief is expected later Tuesday as temperatures climb into the 30s, helping crews shift their focus to treating and plowing rural secondary routes. For now, motorists are urged to use extreme caution and allow extra travel time.
