Latest message from Todd County Emergency Management Director Ash Groves:
Todd County Emergency Management reports that county and state road crews continue to do excellent work treating and plowing roadways; however, current conditions remain challenging due to the type of winter precipitation involved.
Road crews are dealing with compacted snow topped by a layer of ice, which makes it difficult for plow blades to penetrate. While progress is made during daylight hours, near-zero overnight temperatures refreeze surfaces, often reducing gains by the following morning.
Main roadways have shown improvement, but secondary and side roads remain hazardous and difficult to treat. Drivers are urged to continue using caution and to exercise patience when traveling.
Motorists are reminded:
- Avoid following vehicles too closely
- Understand that driving capabilities vary widely in winter conditions
- A single accident can significantly complicate road conditions and divert emergency and road resources
Todd County Emergency Management would like to thank county and state road crews for their long hours and continued dedication under extremely difficult conditions. Their efforts are critical to maintaining safe travel routes for emergency services and the public.
Updates will continue to be shared through WEKT and the Todd County Emergency Management Facebook page.
