Agriculture Meeting Opportunities Coming Up For Local Farmers

Meeting season is approaching for farmers in the region with lots of opportunities to earn certifications and learn something new.

Todd County Extension Office Ag Agent Traci Johnson says winter is an ideal time for farmers to attend meetings, socialize and pick up something that may help them with their operations. She notes there are many more farmers than usual who need to attend certification trainings due to a change in the rules from 2022 and 2023.

There are three opportunities left for a private pesticide applicator certification, needed for anyone looking to purchase and use any pesticide that is restricted use. Certification will cover pesticide laws and safe use, and will also be an opportunity to talk about this past growing season and what farmers noticed. Those meetings can take up to three hours and will take place Thursday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20 at 9am and Tuesday, March 10 at 9am.

There are also a few local opportunities for farmers to get Tobacco GAP training. Training will be offered Monday, Feb. 23 in conjunction with TN-KY Tobacco Expo in Springfield, Tennessee. It will also be available Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Cadiz, Kentucky, and Wednesday, Feb. 25 in Russellville.

Other Tobacco Gap training dates can be viewed HERE.

For other agriculture opportunities, KY-TN Grain Day will take place Friday, Feb. 6 at the Logan County Extension Office, and the University of Kentucky’s Winter Wheat meeting will take place at the Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville Tuesday, Feb. 3.
