Latest update from Todd County Emergency Management Director Ash Groves:

The Todd County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains at Level 5 activation as Winter Storm Fern continues to impact the region. A Level 5 activation means the Emergency Manager and County Road Foreman are actively monitoring conditions and coordinating response efforts.

Todd County Emergency Management is closely tracking the storm and maintaining continuous communication with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet regarding road conditions. At this time, there are no road closures. County and state road crews continue to apply salt to main roadways, with crews closely monitoring persistent areas of concern, including bridges, overpasses, hills, curves, and shaded road sections.

All county communications systems remain fully operational, and no power outages or water system issues have been reported.

Forecasts indicate that snow is expected to transition to sleet and freezing rain this afternoon into the evening hours. Residents are strongly encouraged to limit travel to emergency needs only, as conditions may deteriorate rapidly.

As freezing precipitation accumulates on both horizontal and vertical surfaces overnight, residents are advised to consider the following precautions:

Move at least one vehicle outside, if possible

If parked outside, place a covering over the windshield

Be aware that freezing rain can cause garage doors to freeze shut at the door seal, potentially limiting access when needed

Residents should use extreme caution tomorrow morning, particularly when tending to pets or completing routine chores. Ice accumulation on steps, porches, and walkways may not be immediately visible. Take a moment to assess conditions before walking to reduce the risk of slips and falls.

Todd County Emergency Management will continue to monitor Winter Storm Fern and provide updates as conditions change.
