A local figure known for his dedication to peace and unity, Father Frank Ruff, will celebrate his 90th birthday this Saturday.
Fondly known as “Father Frank,” the retired Catholic priest has been a steadfast spiritual leader and community advocate in Todd County for decades.
Father Frank is particularly recognized for his role as a founding leader of the Laity and Ministers’ Alliance (LAMA) of Todd County over 30 years ago. LAMA was established in 1995 during a time of significant racial tension following a tragic incident. At a critical moment when the community was on edge, Father Frank was one of the key figures who stepped forward, working to bridge divides and promote peace and brotherhood across racial and denominational lines. His involvement has also extended to the work of the local Interfaith Center.
“Of all of the pastors I have had the privilege of meeting over the years, Father Frank’s heart yearns the most for the prayer of Jesus that all believers would be one,” noted Petrie Memorial Methodist Church Pastor Willard Knipp, III, in a recent email to community members.
Knipp also highlighted Father Frank’s consistent support for Petrie, who has participated in numerous events, including the Bicentennial worship celebration.
