On the day that candidates can begin filing for local/state elections in Kentucky for 2026, Todd County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan has announced she will not seek re-election and will retire at the end of her current term.

O’Bryan will conclude roughly eight years of experience leading the Clerk’s Office on December 31, 2026. Her tenure began in 2018 with an appointment following Kim Chapman’s retirement, but she did not run for a full term initially. Leslie Cunningham won the subsequent election for a full term but sadly passed away on August 10, 2019. O’Bryan was then appointed to the position again and has served and been re-elected since that time.

O’Bryan told Your WEKT News Edge she’s ready to slow down in 2027.

O’Bryan is proud of her office’s many accomplishments.

Over her tenure, O’Bryan was able to start accepting credit cards as a payment in 2018, served during the COVID-19 pandemic, and implemented several changes from the state, including new computer systems.

O’Bryan thanked Todd County for their support over the years.

The start of election filings for the 2026 Primary Election will bring a rush of activity to her office, beginning on Wednesday. Filings will be accepted until 4:00 PM on January 9, 2026.
