South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council Reports Significant Todd County Growth

The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council’s (SWKEDC) recent report shows significant growth in Todd County.

SWEDC Director Carter Hendricks spoke to the Elkton Rotary Club at its most recent meeting and shared an economic snapshot of what the council is currently seeing in the three-county region.

Hendricks says Todd County is experiencing significant growth, with Elkton recently recognized as Kentucky’s third fastest-growing city. Additionally, Todd County has four cities ranked in the top 25 for residential growth: Guthrie, Elkton, Allensville and Sharon Grove. He adds this is a big spike for Todd County, and over the last 12-15 months, the county has seen more residential development than Christian County has in the same timeframe.

He adds there is a lot of activity in the region regarding new companies and job opportunities, including from businesses such as Kitchen Food Companies, Cinis Fertilizer, and Bucee’s. While Hendricks notes these are all in Christian County, he says Todd County will still experience its positive effect.

Overall, Hendricks says jobs are up, capital investment is up, tourism is up and around 2,000 new manufacturing jobs will be expected to come into the market.
