Opioid makers will pay $14.4 million to Kentucky cities and counties as part of a nationwide settlement deal, according to the Lane Report.
The Kentucky business and economic magazine writes that in order to combat Kentucky’s man-made opioid crisis, Attorney General Russell Coleman’s office has secured a large sum in settlement dollars from eight opioid manufacturers.
Companies Alygoen, Amneal, Apotex, Hikma, Mylan, Sun, Zydus and Indivior, are now prohibited from manufacturing or selling any opioid products that contain more than 40 mg of oxycodone.
“These companies preyed on the people of Kentucky and profited off our pain. On behalf of the families we serve, our Office will continue holding them accountable,” said Attorney General Coleman. “While these resources won’t fill the empty seats at Kentucky dinner tables, they will help fuel prevention, treatment and recovery efforts across our Commonwealth and help save lives from the scourge of addiction.”
The nationwide opioid settlement sum is $720 million.
