Todd County’s Laity and Ministers Alliance (LAMA) will hold a backpack distribution event Sunday, July 27 for the school district.
Willard Knipp of Petrie Memorial Methodist Church says members of his congregation as well as Elkton’s Christian Church will be distributing backpacks filled with school supplies for all grade levels. There will be roughly 400 backpacks available, but the churches will be able to supply more if there is demand.
Preschool students will also receive backpacks, although theirs do not include supplies.
Knipp says this is something LAMA has done every year for the past several years. No preregistration is required and students and families may come as they are.
He adds volunteers are welcome to come help pack backpacks Wednesday, July 23 at Elkton’s Christian Church beginning at 6 p.m.
The churches also plan to have an efficient assembly line set up on Sunday for backpack pickup by grade level: elementary, middle and high school.
Distribution will take place in TCCHS’s parking lot at 5 p.m. Knipp says it’s not necessary to show up early as there will be plenty of supplies available.
Knipp will be on-site along with WEKT for a community broadcast from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Listen live on Todd 1070 AM, 92.1 FM or the free WEKT mobile app.
