The Todd County Central High School Alumni Foundation has handed out more than a quarter-million dollars in scholarships since its start in 2013.

Carolyn Wells is the secretary of the organization and says the group was born out of a conversation among former classmates.

Just one year later, they awarded their first scholarships. And over the past decade, they’ve given out more than $250,000 to Todd County students, including over $43,000 this year alone.

Wells says donations come from alumni, local businesses, and even residents who didn’t attend Todd Central—people like George and Vicki Kennedy and Mrs. Rowena Everett, who each contributed $50,000 to the cause.

Scholarships are awarded for both academic and technical pursuits. The Foundation now operates as an independent nonprofit and meets monthly at the Todd County Public Library.

Memberships start at just $10 a year. And Wells, a proud member of the class of 1968, says giving back to her school is just part of who she is.

Wells was the June recipient of the Todd County Schools’ ‘Making a Difference’ award.
