Community leaders are mourning the loss of former Elkton Mayor Evelyn Morgan Bell Boone, who passed away Wednesday at Hearthstone Place.
Boone, who wore many hats across the community, was best known for being mayor from 1982 to 1989 and for her ownership of the Todd County Standard.
Elkton Mayor Arthur Green told Your WEKT News Edge that she truly had a servant’s heart.
Following the recent renovation of Elkton City Hall, which included the addition of a porch and stonework on the building’s exterior, Mayor Arthur Green shared that Boone was among the first to enjoy sitting in a rocking chair on the square under the new covering.
Mayor Green said that Boone was proud of the community’s sudden growth in recent years.
Former Elkton City Clerk Laura Brock, who now serves as Executive Administrator for Pennyrile Regional Energy Agency, was close to Boone and called her a “force of nature.”
Brock added, “It was amazing to me how she constantly thought about improving the community.”
After her mayorship, Boone volunteered to serve as director of the Todd County Welcome Center, where Brock said she got the facility up and going.
For how she would want to be remembered, Brock said Boone was always proud of her accomplishments and was a positive person.
“When she worked at the Todd County Standard,” Brock recalled, “I always remember her saying, ‘She always tried to see the positive in every article she wrote, no matter the subject.'”
Funeral arrangements for Boone have not been established. WEKT will share them when they are made available.
