While WEKT’s Cooling Our Communities campaign continues through the end of the month, it got off to a strong start on Tuesday at Haley Hardware in Elkton.
During a one-hour Community Broadcast, 26 box fans and a window unit air conditioner were collected. Misty Owen, who works for Pennyrile Allied Community Services as the Todd County Community Service Coordinator, shared that the need for fans continues to come in strong.
Owen added that low-income seniors and families in need of assistance can call (270) 265-5422 to be added to the waiting list for a fan.
Recently, Owen shared that they serve 450 senior and low-income households in Todd County with LIHEAP and other services.
Tom Haley, owner of Haley Hardware, and his team have made it easy to purchase a fan and leave it for the Cooling Our Communities campaign. Basic 20″ fans at Haley Hardware cost $22.99.
Tammy Campbell, owner of Campbell Accounting in Elkton, was among the various community members to support the effort Tuesday. She shared a strong message to the Todd County community.
Other drop-off locations for fans in Todd County include the Todd County Public Library or the Todd County CSBG Office connected to the senior citizens center.
The Elkton Rotary Club donated $200 toward the cause.
Walker Automotive is the headline sponsor for this year’s campaign, with support also coming in from the City of Elkton, Kentucky Lawn Furniture, Modern Woodmen – Kathy J. Morgan, Southern Homes Realty, Todd County Chamber of Commerce, and Todd County Farm Bureau.
WEKT will broadcast again from Haley Hardware on Thursday, June 19th, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Todd 1070 AM, 92.1 FM, WEKTradio.com, and the WEKT app. The broadcast will feature a chance to donate fans and recieve WEKT swag and tickets to Beech Bend Park in Bowling Green.
