Full-time employees in Todd County Schools could soon receive a major new benefit.

On Monday night, the Todd County Board of Education approved the first reading of a new policy offering up to 30 days of paid maternity and paternity leave for certified and classified staff.

The policy includes leave for the birth or adoption of a child. Superintendent Mark Thomas says it’s about supporting the district’s employees at every stage of parenting.

Todd County Schools already offers childcare for staff members’ children as young as six weeks. Thomas says this is another step toward building a district where families feel supported.

A second reading of the policy is scheduled for July.

If passed, the policy would mark a milestone for the district’s approach to family-friendly employment.
