Three state inmates are facing additional jail time after an attempted riot inside the Todd County Jail Tuesday night.
Jailer Jeff Penick told Your News Edge the incident started around 11:00 PM Tuesday, when the three inmates started acting out, catching a trash can on fire. Additional damage was done to a door in the facility.
The three inmates, unnamed by Penick due to ongoing litigation, were calmed down by authorities shortly before 3:00 Wednesday morning.
No injuries were reported.
All jail staff and the Simpson County Jail Correctional Emergency Response Team responded to the incident.
The Elkton Police Department and Todd County Sheriff’s Office provided additional perimeter security during the incident and subsequent investigation.
The inmates will receive Department of Corrections write-ups, which Penick said will add significant time to their jail sentence.
Two of the inmates have been relocated to another facility.
