Todd County 4-H and FFA will split a $10,500 donation thanks to the auction at the Agriculture Appreciation Breakfast Friday, Feb. 28.
The funds come from the 2024 Grand Champion Non-Commercial State Fair ham, donated by Brian and Beth Frogue of B and B Farms. H&R Agri-Power & United Southern Bank bought the ham before donating it back, allowing it to be auctioned off again to Farm Credit Russellville.
The resulting sum includes $5,250 for both 4-H and FFA. 4-H Extension Agent Lee Ann McCuiston says almost the entirety of that number will be used to send Todd County students to the West Kentucky 4-H Camp this summer.
McCuiston says 4-H camp is a magical time for the students, filled with fun experiences and positive role models. She says she is so thankful to all the organizations involved with the auction and it means the world to her.
On average, around 130-150 students typically attend 4-H camp, according to McCuiston, with around 70 receiving funding.
Last year, 4-H was able to raise $15,000 and thanks to the ag breakfast donation, she’s hoping to surpass that this year. McCuiston plans to continue fundraising between now and July to boost the scholarship fund a little more.
