Guthrie Police Chief Dean Blumel has an idea to keep his officers fit for duty.
In its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening, the city council approved a new wellness program, as presented by Chief Blumel, for the city’s police officers.
The program includes physical fitness tests twice a year and incentives for passing the tests. The incentives include cash bonuses, paid time off, and personal equipment purchases.
Blumel hopes the officer’s improved physical health will lead to improved mental health and better decision-making in the field.
The program could cost the city up to $2,500 per year for the city’s five police officers.
The city will kick off its Christmas celebrations at an Open House on Friday, December 6 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Guthrie Senior Citizens Center.
The Guthrie Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 7 at 11:30 AM.
