Elkton’s Rotary Club is raising money for the Happy Feet program through the annual Firecracker 5K.
The race will be held Saturday, July 27 at 8 a.m. at the Milliken Memorial Community House and Todd County Chamber of Commerce Director Tiffany Groves says participants will travel 3.1 miles through historic downtown Elkton.
She adds every penny raised at the event will go directly toward Todd County Family Resource and Youth Service’s (FRYSC) Happy Feet program, which provides new, name-brand shoes for Todd County students to start the school year. Once shoes are purchased, a truck will come to the Todd County Central High School gym to allow students to come and “shop” for shoes. Last year, the Rotary Club raised around $3,000, equating to around 100 pairs of shoes. Groves’ goal for this year’s race is to raise enough to supply 200 pairs of shoes.
Participants can register online through the Elkton Rotary’s Facebook page or day of starting at 6:30 a.m. The registration fee is $30 and includes a free t-shirt. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by July 20 – after that, late entry registration will cost $40.
Racers are welcome to run or walk. Individuals who cannot participate can also donate through the online registration link.
