The latest project for Novelis, a $365 million investment, has been operational for nearly a month in Guthrie.

During an update with the Elkton Rotary Club, Plant Manager Tom Lilienthal showed pictures of the campus’s progress.

Lilienthal said the recycling and finishing departments do not do much together, except when scrap pieces from an order can be recycled. He added that could change in the future.

In the future, Lilienthal said Novelis would soon be using rail lines to haul materials between the Guthrie facility and Logan Aluminum in Russellville.

The recycling center in Guthrie is said to reduce carbon emissions by more than one million tons a year and was estimated to create 140 new jobs. Currently, the facility employs around 300 people.
