The Elkton-Todd County Park has seen a lot of changes in the past week as construction begins on the county’s new soccer complex.
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield says as of Tuesday, one field is almost complete.
The complex will feature two full-sized soccer fields and a smaller field designated for younger age groups, as well as restrooms, lights for one field and an area for parking. Mansfield says that will be the extent of this phase, but over the next several years, he hopes to improve the complex and the rest of the park as funds become available.
The soccer complex is made possible through a National Parks Service land and water grant awarded in March 2021 — as well as the City of Elkton, who donated seven and a half acres to the park to house the complex.
Mansfield says there have been some delays over the years on the project due to the National Parks Service processing and reviewing the grant and COVID-19 slowing down construction. He adds many people thought the complex would never happen, but he assures the community progress is currently moving quickly and moving well. Mansfield says construction is well ahead of the project’s official end date of September 2025, and if weather permits, the sitework should be complete by the end of this July.
He shares he is very excited about the new complex and thinks it will be a great asset to the community.
Mansfield adds he will keep his Facebook page updated throughout the summer with photos of the project’s progress.
