Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Mary Charles Covington King

Mary Charles Covington King is a 1973 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

She values most from her time in school her friendships, as well as her experiences in English classes, drama, band and cheerleading. King has fond memories of her band director, Mr. Mills, walking through the school’s breezeway, the library, lunchroom meals and the gym being filled with people at basketball games.

She adds she will always treasure the memory of her senior play and student teacher Laura Rouse, who left her with a life-long lesson: if she was having issues about something bothering her, to leave it behind the curtain and pick it back up again when she finished her job. King says she has lived her entire life remembering those words.

King advises current Todd Central students to work hard in English class, count their money and make good choices in their lives.

To current educators, to learn about their students and be careful of the words they use because they will stay with students for the rest of their lives.

After graduating, King attended Austin Peay State University for one year then attended Cosmetology School where she learned to be a hairdresser. She spent 38 years in the profession and is currently a lay minister.

King was born in Russellville, Kentucky and now lives in Guthrie. She has three children, Robert, Rebecca and Tyler.
