The Todd County Fair Board has been re-established to create an outdoor arena, with more projects expected in the future.

Elkton Mayor and Fair Board President Arthur Green told Your WEKT News Edge the 150′ by 230′ arena will be constructed on the property of the Todd County Extension Service on Pond River Road.

The panels, which are around $250 each, will provide a perimeter for the outdoor space and will be used to host a 4-H/FFA market goat and sheep show on Thursday, August 1. The project cost is just over $12,500 and includes other needed items.

Green said there has been a dire need for an outdoor arena since the space near the former Libby’s Steakhouse in Daysville closed. In that time, those wishing to participate in activities in those spaces have had to drive to Christian or Logan counties, or further.

Now that the fair board is in play, Green added they hope to eventually secure state and federal grant funding to also add a pavilion, restrooms, and a concession stand on the property.

The newly formed board follows KRS guidelines and features sixteen members. In addition to Green, Barry Rager serves as vice president, Tammy Roberston as treasurer, and Billy Carter as secretary for the board. Other members include; Scott Shackelford, Shayla Berry, Quashawn Quarles, Russell King, Todd Mansfield, Don Laster, Lee Ann McCuiston, Jill Harris, Traci Johnson, Elijah Bell, Scott Hurt, and Travis Keeling.

Checks toward the project can be mailed to the Todd County Extension District at 240 Pond River Road; Elkton, Kentucky; 42220, and must be received by Friday, June 21st. For more information, you can contact McCuiston at (270) 265-5659.
