Blount Rural Health Center celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
Executive Director Anita Jo Powell says the public can see the center has really expanded in the past 25 years since the Helping Hands Health Clinic was initially established and says Blount Rural Health’s biggest asset has become its behavioral health department.
Powell says the department already employs a licensed clinical social worker and just this year, added a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Sheena Blake, who Powell says has been a true asset to the community.
She adds the center also offers other services beyond the mental health aspect, including dental practice.
Powell says as of July, the center will have been offering dental practice for six years now. She adds it has truly been successful and provides service to patients from all over the Commonwealth.
Blount Rural Health Center, originally Helping Hands Health Clinic, was founded by the late Bryan Blount — with the help of two Catholic sisters.
In 2014, it was converted to the certified rural health clinic the community knows today.
Powell adds the center recently started a scholarship fund in honor of Blount and will announce its recipient soon.
The Blount Rural Health Center services the Todd, Logan, Christian, Muhlenberg and surrounding areas and is located on 810 S Main St. in Elkton. For more information on any of its services, contact the center at 270-265-5600.
